There is something exciting about each season of the year! I look forward to the different activities each season brings! Winter is a month that provides hours of sledding, skiing and snowboarding. Most of the time, where I live, there is very little snow to play with in your yard. It snows a couple times during the winter, but melts quickly a few days later. We play hard on those few snow days and have been seen building snowmen at 11:00 o’clock at night!
This year has been a different story! We have had the most snow I have ever seen, and it keeps coming! We are enjoying all of our favorite activities day after day! Here is a list of activities that are a must during winter snow days!
#1 – SNOW CAVES
Right now we have 4 snow caves in our yard. One is pretty big with great plans to sleep in it once its done. It is simple and will keep your kids busy for a long time! When it starts snowing, have your kids get snow shovels and start shoveling the snow all in a pile. The bigger the pile, the bigger the cave. Once you have your pile, have your kids start digging an opening into the snow pile. If you want to sleep in the cave, or keep it warmer, keep this the only opening. The opening should be as narrow and small as you can. This will keep the heat in better.

You will continue to dig out all of the snow, until you have a nice room inside of your snow pile. If your kids don’t want to sleep in it, then you can have has many tunnels going in as you want. My kids like to do both kinds. They are very excited to sleep in their snow cave. Today they made beds, and put in a fridge. Make sure you put a tarp down first, and then your sleeping bags. Everyone’s body heat will keep it nice and warm.
#2 – SNOW ORANGE JULIUS
Seriously! This is so wonderfully easy and crazy delicious!
My boys LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this stuff!!
Have your kid go get a big bowl full of fresh, clean, white snow (stay away from the yellow snow: ha ha)
Make up some orange juice, and pour into cups.
Let your kids put in as much snow in each cup as they want. Stir and enjoy! Seriously this is the best, and the kids love it!
#3 – SNOW ICE CREAM
This is another treat that is always fun and delicious to make! Go grab some fresh, white snow. Dish up some snow in cups and add sugar, vanilla, and milk to your own liking. Another variety is snow, vanilla and sweetened condensed milk.
#4- SNOW CONES
This is as self explanatory as you can get and always a must whenever it snows. Fill up a cup with fresh snow and drizzle with your favorite syrup flavoring!
#5- SNOW DRAGGING
If you have never experienced this, you need to add this to your bucket list. Really! Go to your local tire store and buy an XL inner tube. Tie a rope around the tube and attach the other end of the rope to a 4-wheeler. Leave 2-3 feet on the tube end for the passenger to hold onto. The perfect place to do this is on your road right after a snow storm. You can also do this with sleds as well. My boys like going together so they can try and knock each other off! Loads of fun!
Even though I spend a lot of time clearing snow, I am loving all of the snow! A white winter is a lot better then a brown, dreary winter! Enjoy, be safe, and have fun!
